“Welcome to my house. Come freely. Go safely; and leave something of the happiness you bring!”

Bram Stoker, Dracula, Chapter II

________________________________________

This course is a deep dive into the world of Bram Stoker’s influential novel Dracula. Most of Stoker’s other writings pale in comparison. If you have been curious about the book that inspired so many films, music, television, and other works of fiction and theater, you’ve come to the right “house.” You’ll learn about the many misconceptions about Dracula and vampires in general and have a lot of fun gaining some insight into the novel’s influence. This course will enhance your viewing of films in this genre as well. Along the way, we’ll read other small selections to enhance our understanding of the work. Also, we will read Stoker’s own notes and edits to the manuscript to see how the writer developed his ideas and narrative plan. You’ll be writing often, speaking, and creating some multi-modal projects as we have space and time. Glad you are joining. I’ll meet you with Jonathan Harker on the journey to Castle Dracula deep in the Carpathians!

Here in these webpages, you will find the course syllabus, assignments, and student work.
